An educational and sustainable project for do-it-yourself irrigation
The students of agrarian high school Della Rovere of Urbania (Pesaro-Urbino area, Italy) participated in an initiative promoted by SAB to learn how to practically use drip irrigation systems. This event, which was attended by future agronomists and farmers, aimed at raising awareness of the importance of a responsible use of water resources.
The core of this event was the installation of an irrigation system dedicated fennels cultivation. The goal was to demonstrate how SAB solutions can be easily applied to obtain optimal results, even in small contexts. The students explored the irrigation techniques and understood the value of sustainability in agriculture.
Details of the system
The plot of land chosen for the project has a width of 6 meters and a length of 9.5 meters. Before installing the system, the soil was accurately prepared and the fennel sowing had already been made. An existing water source was used to start the system, guaranteeing its necessary efficiency.

Products used
- Main distribution pipe PE100 diameter 32: Made in high-density polyethylene, compliant with UNI EN 12201-2, it guarantees high resistance and reliability for water supply networks under pressure. The pipe was connected to the system with Layfit and Blueseal fittings.
- Layfit fitting: designed for use with layflat hoses, SAB’s Layfit fitting ensures an optimal hydraulic seal for both 4 bar and 10 bar hoses. With its anti-rotation system and components that prevent scratches on the pipe, it guarantees durability and ease of assembly. The complete range is offered at competitive costs thanks to the sharing of components with the Perla fitting line for 10 bar polyethylene pipes.
- Blueseal fitting: It is an essential component to connect the main distribution pipe to the RioFlex layflat hose by SAB. Made in polypropylene, this fitting is designed to withstand a working pressure up to 16 bars (PN16), guaranteeing safety and durability.
- RioFlex PE 100 2”: A versatile and resistant layflat hose, with pre-installed outlets at a 40cm distance from each other. These outlets are made with a punch and equipped with a RioFlex female threaded outlet. This system enables you to make an easy and quick connection with drip tapes by means of a ½” male threaded valve.
- Ma.Go drip tape: With a 16mm diameter, an 8mil thickness and a 40cm spacing, Ma.Go is designed to ensure high performance. Its wide-section labyrinth guarantees a turbulent flux and a top resistance to clogging, ensuring a uniform distribution of water and fertilizers, even over long distances.
Conclusion
This project was a concrete example of how the SAB technology can support sustainable agriculture and the formation of new generations. Thanks to the installation of the system, the students had an opportunity to see drip irrigation solutions in action, learning the importance of a responsible use of water resources.
